Abstract
The Smart Library Book Tracking and Automated Return System is designed to modernize traditional library management by replacing manual entry with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. The system utilizes an ESP32 microcontroller integrated with an RFID reader to identify books and user IDs instantly. When a book is scanned, the system communicates with a centralized database via Wi-Fi to update the status of the book as 'Issued' or 'Returned'. An OLED display provides real-time feedback to the user. This approach eliminates the need for physical barcodes and manual ledger entries, significantly reducing the time required for book circulation. The project ensures high accuracy in inventory tracking, prevents unauthorized removal of books, and streamlines the administrative workflow, making it an ideal solution for educational institutions and public libraries seeking digital transformation.

Project Description
Traditional library systems often rely on manual logging or barcode scanning, which are time-consuming and prone to human error. The primary problem addressed by this project is the inefficiency of manual book tracking and the difficulty in locating misplaced books within a large collection. The objective of this system is to create a seamless, automated environment where books can be issued and returned without the need for constant staff intervention. The system works by attaching a unique RFID tag to every book and providing RFID cards to library members. The ESP32 acts as the central processing unit, reading the unique UID of the tags and transmitting this data to a remote server or local database using Wi-Fi. The software logic handles the check-in and check-out process: if a user scans their ID followed by a book tag, the database marks the book as issued to that specific user. Conversely, scanning the book at the return station automatically updates the status to 'Available'. From a societal and engineering perspective, this project reduces the administrative burden on librarians and improves the user experience for students and researchers. By digitizing the tracking process, the library can generate accurate reports on book popularity, overdue items, and inventory loss. The integration of an OLED display ensures that users receive immediate confirmation of their transactions, bridging the gap between physical assets and digital records.

Conclusion
The Smart Library Book Tracking and Automated Return System successfully demonstrates the application of RFID and IoT in streamlining institutional workflows. By replacing manual logs with an ESP32-driven automated system, the project achieves a significant reduction in administrative overhead and improves the accuracy of book tracking. While the system is constrained by the short read-range of the RC522 module and the necessity of continuous network connectivity, these trade-offs are acceptable for a localized library environment. The outcome is a robust, scalable prototype that proves the feasibility of automated circulation. Future enhancements, such as adding security gates and mobile integration, will further elevate the system's utility, ultimately transforming the library into a truly smart facility that enhances the academic experience for both staff and students.
