Abstract
In modern manufacturing and assembly plants, automating small-part movement between workstations is critical for reducing cycle times and eliminating manual handling bottlenecks. This project presents a Mini Belt Conveyor with an integrated automated loading mechanism, engineered for continuous transport of lightweight materials. The system features a durable, high-friction conveyer belt driven by a high-torque DC gear motor. A Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) speed controller allows operators to adjust belt speed dynamically to match downstream workstation pacing. Positioned at the inlet, a motorized chute mechanism regulates part placement onto the moving belt, guided by an infrared proximity sensor that detects item presence. Constructed on a lightweight, modular aluminum extrusion frame, the conveyor combines high positional accuracy with a compact benchtop footprint. This setup offers an efficient, scalable solution for small-parts transfer, sorting lines, and industrial automation training labs.

Project Description
Manual material transfer between adjacent workstations in electronic assembly, packaging, and sorting facilities often introduces workflow delays, inconsistent production rates, and unnecessary physical handling. While heavy-industrial conveyors handle bulk goods, small-scale assembly lines require flexible, compact, and precise material handling systems. The Mini Belt Conveyor with Loading Mechanism addresses this need by providing an automated, speed-adjustable benchtop transport platform. The core system consists of a loop conveyor belt driven by a high-torque DC gear motor through precision roller drums. Speed regulation is handled by a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) driver circuit, allowing operators to fine-tune linear belt velocity to synchronize with manual or robotic assembly stations. At the upstream feed point, a motorized gate loading chute regulates the entry of components onto the belt. An infrared (IR) proximity sensor positioned at the feed inlet detects incoming parts and triggers the gate mechanism, ensuring uniform part spacing and preventing material jams on the belt. Built using structural aluminum extrusion profiles, the conveyor chassis provides high rigidity while remaining lightweight and easily repositionable. Adjustable belt tensioners at the driven roller maintain proper traction and tracking under varying operational loads. This project serves as an ideal prototype for small-parts transfer, automated inspection lines, and educational demonstrations of industrial material handling principles.
